St Mary's Estate, Oldham

The Maze is based on our discovery of an old map which showed that in Medieval times St Mary's was in an area of sanctuary guarded by seven knights. Working with the local community we created seven modern day knights to protect the things that are important to the residents of the area today: people, children, animals, play, the environment, houses and culture.

From a central artwork you can follow stone paths to each knight finding his shield and horse on the way. The artworks are made from bronze, cast stone, carved stone and an earthwork dug into the ground and filled with cement.
